Beyoncé: The Formation World Tour Outfits

Beyoncé is known for her music, her performances, but also her outfits after winning the 'CFDA Fashion Icon Award' this year. In her speech she thanked her mum (Tina Lawson), who still to this day, makes some of Beyoncé's outfits for herself and her dancers.
I have chosen some of my favourite outfits from the Formation World Tour that stood out to me the most on the night.

The first Outfit that I really liked was this one on the left, made by BALMAIN. This body suit is victorian inspired and is made from french lace, which would make sense considering the creative director of Balmain (Olivier Rousteing) is french, with a floral motif. The lace includes pearls, crystals and glass beads which have been hand- embroidered. I really like how Balmain have made this body suit tightly fitted to suit her curvature. Balmain have also made a costume for each one of Beyoncé's dancers. However, the dancers costumes are slightly different to Beyoncé's so she can still stand out and have all eyes on her.

The next outfit is made by a man called Peter Dundas, ROBERTO CAVALLI. Roberto Cavalli had made a few outfits for Beyoncé in the past and she adores their work.
He designed a body suit for Beyoncé with black crystals embroided onto the black fabric with gold metallic thread. He also included velvet boots that match the colour of her body suit so each item of clothing has a connection. These velvet boots have a pattern that is similar to tiger stripes, and have a blocky heel to represent a rough and animalistic look.
When I look at this outfit, it reminds me of her music video to her song 'Grown Woman' as in one part of the music video, she is seen to be dancing in a very green and open jungle. The choreography is very flowing and natural in the sense that it looks like a tribe has created it. In her new song "Don't Hurt Yourself", there's a line where she says: "Beautiful mane. I'm the lion". This supports my view on how this outfit makes her look animalistic, alongside her hair, and how she recognises as a lion.
Again, this body suit really complements her curves that she likes and it encourages women to embrace their own.
The pattern, at the top half off the body suit, is very detailed and draws attention to the upper half of her body. This allows us to not look at her legs and appreciate the body suit and the detail that has been embroided into it. It also allows us to think in a non-objectifying manner by embracing her fashion and music.

This two piece look was designed by Riccardo Tisci, GIVENCHY. The two piece look includes bronze embellishments that are different shades so a pattern can form. If you look closely, the two piece body suit is connected by a nude fishnet material that stretches from her ankles to just above her waist. The top half has a loose neck role and pushed up shoulder pads to exaggerate her chest. The design of this outfit really intrigues me because of the intricate detail that has been included. The pattern of this two piece outfit must have taken a long time to complete because of the different shades and making sure that the pattern links together.
Her back up dancers are wearing a very simple, yet elegant, body suit that is a darker bronze to Beyoncé's two piece outfit. There isn't much detail in the back up dancers outfits. However, we do see some sort of stretchy material that could stretch from the front of the body suit to the back (hasn't been confirmed). We do see a resemblance between the two outfits for both outfits include shoulder pads that exaggerate the chest as well as the shoulders.
My favourite outfit, out of these three, would be the Roberto Cavalli body suit because I really like neutral colours that don't stand out too much. I like how Peter Dundas has contrasted the gold against the black and is still able to include the reflective light on the black crystals.
I'm sure Beyoncé will make more fashion statements in the future and will be able to attract an audience like me once again!
Thank you Bey!

See AllI'm sorry, I had to use a Beyoncé remark in my title because it's Beyoncé. She is the epitome of feminism. Before I start this blog post,...
